Secret of the Incas

What Seven Samurai was to Star Wars, Secret of the Inca is to Indiana Jones. The description on the video says it all:

Harry Steele (Charlton Heston) is the smart, two-fisted relic hunter who has found the secret hiding place of ancient Inca gold, high in the Peruvian Andes at fabled Machu Picchu, and is willing to use anyone or anything to get there; Dr. Stanley Moorehead (Robert Young) is the idealistic archeologist who wants to give the long-lost treasure back to the Peruvian people; Elena Atonescu (Nicole Maury) is the beautiful and seductive refugee they both fall for, and who will stop at nothing to stay out from behind the Iron Curtain; Kori-Tika (Yma Sumac) is the exotic Inca priestess, whose otherworldly singing is the only way to pacify the restless Peruvian natives; Ed Morgan (Thomas Mitchell) is the murderous thief, driven by a lifetime of greed, who is trying to steal the treasure for a last great score. Harry must race them all to find the treasure, using a secret of his own - only Harry knows the ancient ritual which will reveal the hidden gold in the tomb of the last Inca King, in a stunning scene that influenced the Well of Souls from "Raiders Of The Lost Ark".

A lot of attention is given about how this is so influential to Indiana Hones, but the thing that makes me nerd out the most is that this is the only movie Yma Sumac ever made. For those of you unfamiliar, Yma Sumac was a Peruvian Singer with an incredible vocal range of five octaves. That's only the beginning of how awesome she was.

Anyways, enjoy the movie. I've been trying to watch it for ages, and only recently has the whole thing become accessible, as it is now public domain.

Littlest Print Exchange

even though I know I sometimes bite off more than I can chew, I've decided to join The Littlest Print Exchange just for the fun of it. and also to get my printmaker nerd on. For those of you interested, sign ups are still going on and spaces still available, so jump on it! I have no idea what I'm going to do for it, but I never know what I'm doing anyways.

Lady Knuckles Sketch

Sorry for being so scattered lately. I've been wanting to show more drawings and less silly videos, but I've had some serious blockage. Nothing a heavy dosage of Warren Ellis comics straight into the nervous system couldn't fix, I guess. i've been knee deep in The Authority and Planetary(as well as my weekly fix of Freakangels) as well as having plenty of brain time at work to think about comics and other things that I could be doing with my free time. Anyways, I decided to revisit an old idea, a sort of street fighter-esque tournament between super hero teams. I guess there are too many super humans around with nothing to do, so to keep them from fighting eachother and making a mess out of all the architecture, the world governments set up a mandatory tournament thing. Below is Lady Knuckles, who is unfortunately paired with Captain Apathy(who I drew, but is not ready for show and tell just yet) Threw some basic colors on Lady Knuckles. More supers to come, perhaps. If I can stay focused on one comic book project long enough to actually get something done.

Sounds from Space!

I am both fascinated and terrified with outer space. Here is what Saturn sounds like. Or rather, electromagnetic waves converted into an audio file. You can hear more of these by checking out the Coilhouse article on the subject.

Space is creepy, and I love it. I also have this sneaking suspicion I'm bound for an existential moment.
