to the stars!

Sorry it's been a while. I've been a busy bee, what with things and stuff happening. I recently did the 24 hour comic day challenge, which went well considering I had to go to work for most of the day and help the boyfriend move in. SO it ended up being more like a 16 hour comic day challenge. whateves, I still stayed up for 24 hours. The fruits of my sleep deprived labor can be found here and you can find other peeps from entervoid.com who participated in the challenge here and here.

also, my life is slowly being taken over by Glitch. I think my problem is that I so rarely play video games that I have no ability resist.

Poison Watcher

I'm trying desperately to get myself out of a rut. The Starwatcher Meme over at the Moebius blog is helping me. I think I need to just do a slew of fanart, because I don't do enough of it (other than the xena doodles). Here's my submission:

I like the the line art much better than the colored version, but I'm also really picky and inexperienced in the digital coloring department. So who knows. I also suck at backgrounds. buuuut I'm working on it. So this is a double fan art, first after Moebius' Starwatcher, but done as Bowie from James Stokoe's Orc Stain. I've been wanting to do a Bowie fan art for a while. (as an aside, I've been wanting to do a David Bowie fan art as well, but I haven't done it yet. someday....) Anyways, I may go back and play with digital colors since I have the line art all ready to go on this one.

Rhymes with... Oscar Wilde

It's been a long time since I've done a Rhymes With(or rather, a long time since I've posted anything regularly) Today, Oscar Wilde.

sketchs and stuff...

getting ready for a battle over at void I've been doing warm up sketches and stuff. Trying, for once, to do things right and not rush things like an idiot. anyways, I want part of the story to be with watercolors, so I thought I would do some sketches first before committing to that.

I'm still not so sure, but I guess I'll just have to practice.

next is some marker drawings I did. I got one of those larger sketchbooks to see if the larger format would help with drawing. It does. I've been using tiny sketchbooks for years and I'm kicking myself now for not branching out sooner. it makes marker work so much easier.

more things later. It's a work day, so I'm frantically trying to get as much sketching done before then as possible.

SAPCE GIRL

I'm having a proper nerd out over this one:

Serious, a montage of awesome ladies in sci fi? Yes, please, may I have another? I think I squeed the whole time I saw this for the first time, and cheered like a ridiculous fan girl the next few times. The song is pretty rad too.

comics! And the Farm!

So I've ben trying to get my comic skills sharp after several years of letting it go by the wayside. This means I've started doing void comics again, but with renewed determination and understanding. It also means I managed to make the longest comic I have ever made in my life, clocking in at 22 pages. here's part One and part Two. I have a lot of editing to do, since I was working on a deadline(also good practice) and missed a few things(also had to rush the last half so backgrounds suffered quite a bit. also, sad lack of tones.) Anyways, enough babbling. check it out. I'm going to give that story a break and let my brain recover for a sec.

I also went to the boyfriend's farm yesterday for the first time.

It was a really nice day, the first day where it actually felt like summer.

Here's the boyfriend, inspecting some strawberries.

And here are a few of the many awesome trucks.

Just after I left(to lock myself in my room and draw comics for 10 hours, believe me I did not want to go) they found a wild swarm of bee in one of their barns. So they found the queen, gave it a home and have a new swarm! I should add that they already keep bees, so they got an extra hive! woo hoo! I also got to ride around on the ATV(which I have to admit to failing at learning to drive...) yeah, it was loads of fun.

I also recently signed up to volunteer at the HUmane Society in town, because I don't do enough with my life. Actually, it's more that I wish I could have a dog, but don't have the time, money or real estate(or stability) to allow that, so I figure I can do some good and get to hang out with animals at the same time. You never know where that sort of thing will lead. Anyways, orientation doesn't start until the end of july, so I've got some time before that happens, but I'm still stoked!

music and nature wads

First, here's a way for me to share music, because I miss doing radio.

hopefully I can do these mixes on a semi regular basis. Also, I'm frantically working on comics, prints, and gardening. So far I haven't killed anything. The last few weeks have been EXTREMELY busy, so its a little weird to have some down time, but of course I'm using it to draw comics and procrastinate and learn esperanto.

here is one of the nature wad prints i'm working on...

They're coming...

Get ready for the Bump it Mafia. Nothing's going to stop a band of wild lady printmakers!

Also, I'm off to Santa Barbara for a few days. it's supposed to rain. trashcat is not amused. It should be fun anyways.

Take that, nightmares!

So I've been having dreams every night for the past month that have been ranging from mildly unpleasant to horrible nightmares. I had a particularly vivid one last night and the visuals were so strong I drew a few key scenes out(secretly using it to practice my photoshop painting skillz). If I'm going to dream every night, I might as well mine them for ideas. Here they are:

Once upon a time, a small detachment of mounted soldiers decided to get a message across to a neighboring country. most of the group stayed behind while two went ahead to scout territory.

I arrived on the scene just as the group of soldiers were turning around to go home. "What's going on? Why are you turning back?" I asked. "We don't work on thursdays" one of the soldiers replied.

I caught up with the two men at the shore of a dark bay with a land bridge that at one time crossed into the next kingdom. However, the ocean had taken its toll. (not pictured) about halfway across, the bridge turned to mud, and the two men and their horses had become stuck. By the time I got there both horses and one of the men had drowned.

When I finally made it to the remaining man, he was pretty stuck but we managed to get him out. as we were doing it, this freaky fish man kept circling us, looking like he was about to eat us. I tried to kick out but the water slowed me down, so I planned to keep my arms out of the water and hit it from above if it came too close. It apparently realized what I was doing, decided it was too much work for a snack and left us alone. I told the man to run for the cliffs, and safety.

Halfway up the cliff, I noticed that the man had been left behind me somewhere, adn the waters were now teeming with mermaids. They were very VERY dangerous, and I had a bad feeling they had taken the man. So I ran back to try and see where he had fallen in, adn this white mermaid reared out of the water to try to eat me alive.

I jumped in the water, despite the abnormally large albino mermaids, found the man, and dragged him back to the shore, using a reverse siren song(mostly just a bunch of half singing half yelling at mermaids) to fight off the mermaids.

and they all lived happily ever after...maybe.

Rima con...El Internet

I haven't done a Rhymes With segment in a bit. So enjoy El Internet and El Chiki Chiki on today's special spanish installment of Rima Con... I tried to find translations of both songs for non-spanish speakers(because they are much more enjoyable when you know what they are saying) but could only find the translation for El Chiki Chiki.
Get your Baila on.

El Internet, by Los Alguiens

El Chiki Chiki, by Rodolfo Chikilicuatre

Warrior Princess Up-do

I think these xena doodles are going to have to become a zine. or a series of prints. I made another last night for the produce cooler at work, but I haven't gotten around to scanning it yet. Also still plugging away at my comic, got four pages inked and ready to go. Hopefully I can get a large amount done over the next few days, since I'm going to get incredibly busy over the next month. More things later, I'm going to go bathe and eat something.

Today on the internet

So a friend of mine has a saying that goes something like "If you think of it, it exists on the internet." Today the Boyfriend demanded to see something funny, and I asked him what he wanted, and he responded "A Hillbilly Getting Tazerd!" One youtube search later, and we find A drunken hillbilly on a lawnmower getting tazered. Lordy.

Meanwhile, in their own words

There's been a lot of San Francisco posts over at laughing squid lately, which has made me a touch nostalgic. But nothing has made me straight up homesick until this post. Wendy Macnaughton's narratives and illustrations are incredible, and really give a feel for what I remember of living in the city (particularly the ones about the farmers market and the library). You can see the whole series here.

and now its off to breakfast, laundry, and more drawing.

time to draw!

Remember how I said I replanted a bunch of plants the other day? here they are, looking all cool with some fancy filters from my fancy phone thing. The future is now.

Also, I spent all of today drawing. WOO! got two whole pages inked and ready to go for Tip Top.

now, from that image you might assume this is a sea-faring, piratey ordeal. You would be wrong. There are a lot of cats.a ratio of about one thousand cats to every ass hole killed in this comic. it will make sense later, I promise.

Also, I like to pretend I'm Xena. You can tell it's me because I'm wearing glasses. Xena does not wear glasses.

Anyways, short update. Killing time waiting for the boyfriend so we can go get food and then go play Rockband at Ground Kontrol. I thought we were going to a concert tonight but it's not for another 2 weeks. I am a silly person.

I'm also a very hungry lady, so I might go down and forage for something in my scary fridge. send a search party if I'm not back in a week or so.

Mattias Adolfsson

The above is a sketchbook from the swedish artist Mettias Adolfsson which I found via the blog Book by its Cover. It makes me want to draw all the time every day. One could easily get lost in his illustrations and never come back. The only thing that saved me was the fact that I haven't yet had breakfast, and there are some tasty leftovers drawing me downstairs. Anyways, I highly suggest visiting Mattias' bog as well as Book by its Cover, as both provide a fairly endless amount of inspiration.

I.Am.Your.Grandmamama.

First off, I got a late start to my day because I stayed up too late reading Dune and being a neeeeeeerd. drawing comics and things. Today I went to farmers market and got some new loverly plants! Some fancy basil(it's purple!) and some mint (it smells good!) and I replanted some older plants that looked very unhappy in their old pots. So now I have a whole little spot in my room for happy non-succulent plants. hopefully I don't kill them. I am also working on Tip Top(I know, I always say I'm working on shit and never have anything to show for it. it's because I'm afraid of my scanner(It requires sacrificial goats. very messy) anyways, I'm actually almost done scripting, character designs are mostly done, and I have two full days with nothing planned ahead of me. I AM GOING TO DRAW LIKE A MAD WOMAN.

Now for the real business:

this has been floating around the internets like internet herpes, and I'm doing my part to keep spreading it. It also keeps being described as nightmare inducing, but the tune is REALLY catchy. I mean, I wish it was longer. Anyways, I've already caught myself at work socking apples singing "I am your grandma ma ma! I am your grandma!" Not creepy, i swear.

Edit: oops, forgot to post this last night. oh well, not much has changed.

Seeing Hands

First off there's Jersey shore gone Wilde which is delightful.

also, I've been printing! here's what I'm working on for littlest print exchange. It's been a bit of an adventure, since I was trying to get it done quickly. The semester is almost over so I'm not sure if I'm going to have studio access over the summer. so I'm getting my print stuff done now.

here's printing with ketchup and mustard. not really tho.

and then the first two runs:

and the completed print, as of noon today:

next week I'll be doing some more printing, but now it's off to work with me. I haven't pulled a large multi-color edition in a while. Also I think I will never print paper this small again. it's very hard to register, annoying to callendar, etc etc. next time I will use larger paper and cut it down, or do multiple-up or something like that. ok, enough print-speak. here's some random sketches with marker, trying to emulate an artist I enjoy:

also slowly working out plot details of that comic I'll get around to drawing sometime in the near future hopefully.as usual, it has transformed greatly since I first started working on it a month ago.

ok, time for work now...I leave you with Dengue Fever(who I saw last friday. THEY ARE THE BEST.)

Things on the Internet Today...

This morning I have indulged in a bit of internet exploration on blogs I rarely visit because I know I will be sucked into their depths for hours. this is what I found:
A Gender Reveal party, in which expectant families discover the gender of their child via Cake! mmmmm.

Extreme ironing, though the lack of oncoming traffic makes it somewhat less extreme...

Monkeys riding dogs herding goats.

you can also see the epic ride of Taco John.

Darna and the Planet Women(more on this wonderful lady later, I promise)

Two girls on rollerblades playing accordions.

how to toss a lady.

Baby Red Pandas!!!!!!!!! EEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!

and on that note, I will leave you to your day.

making headway

So I've got a fairly large portion of the plot to my comic figured out, not it's just breaking it down and writing it and doing all the design, but at least I feel a little more focused instead of just shooting in the dark and hoping things work out as I go along. I have a plot! Also I finally figured out what all the commotion was about the other day with the shooting by my house. I guess someone in a car opened fire on another car and then drove off. They closed off the street to find shell casings. No one was wounded or killed, which is good, and they have no idea who did it.

Also, Stumptown Comic Fest is in like TWO DAYS!!!!!! I am tres excited. I've been trying to do daily sketches, here's yesterday's:

just some Void stuff. two of my own characters and one fan art. more soon I hope. Now it's time for me to eat some food!

Tuesday, April 12, 2011

and now this is happening...

So today has been a little odd. the sun came out, which is a rare thing indeed in the land of magic and whim. So I spent the first part of my day basking in the sunlight. then my housemate and I prepared for an adventure of chocolate gathering and trader joes. However, as we were getting ready we heard gunshots outside and a car speed away. my housemate thought it was someone hammering a roof or something. Anyways, we forgot about t until we went out and half teh street was shut down. We have no idea what happened or if anyone got hurt/dead.

After our adventure, I've been doodling and trying to figure out illustrator. I still can' quite figure the damn thing out, so I gave up for a minute and decided to doodle in photoshop instead. here's what I did:

cat woman, and a few other random ladies. I also drew a quick comic to this tune:

I'm learning how to play that one on the accordion, and it's been stuck in my head. I think I need to draw something a little more majestic and fitting, I'm not sure how the cats have anything to do with russian folk songs...

and now I'm off to karaoke. Because I'm awesome like that and I need my day to be more random.

Sunday, April 10, 2011

Today I am doing nothing.

It's true. I've spent most of my day farting around on the internet, and I don't even have new shineys to share. I have many project that I should be doing, and I am defiantly not doing. It seems april defiance is bleeding into all aspects of my life.

okay, so it's not entirely true that I've done nothing. The boyfriend and I watched some Top Gear (sweet lord do I love that show...) and then went out for waffles, and then went to a video store(no, it's more exciting than you think) that has a lot of old props and costumes from movies, and took a wrong turn somewhere and ended up on Mt. Tabour. not sure I spelled that right. Anyways, I guess my morning was pretty adventureful. I need to make some food for a potluck. And finish a logo for a friend. And get some serious work done on the comic. I would also love to print today, but the young ones have a crit tomorrow and so I suspect everyone will be in tonight trying to get their work done. also tried to do a "finger wave" with my hair. these old-timey hairstyles I've been trying are really hard for people with stubbornly straight hair.

okay, there we have it. my procrastination is complete, I should probably go and do something productive...

Down the Rabbit hole...Russia style

okay, so it's time for another rhymes with...
half my face is numb from the filling I just got, and I'd like my face to start working again. in the meantime, enjoy these jems of the internets!

I prefer this to the original Katy Perry song. No, I really do, I'm not joking.

Who knew balloons could be so...melodic?

and then there's this:

doodles and nonsense.

Here's a test on that new shiny comic board nonsense. Pluggin away at the comic, as usual, but here's a quick sketch of the main character lady, stuck in the middle of the desert, wanting some cheese fries. I wish I could spend all day at it, but I have to go to work shortly, which means food time needs to happen. Oh, and I just finished reading Planetary. Have I mentioned how much I love Warren Ellis? Because I do.

Shut Up, Crime!

I am hoping this movie is good, because this genre can really go either way. It does, however, have kevin Bacon and Nathan Fillion in it, which might bode well. I like the Silly super hero genre (Mystery Men, Kickass) where the super heros don't actually have a super power other than they can hit things in creative ways. We shall see.

I know I've been pretty low key lately, promising posts with drawings and such in them and not actually delivering. Well, I'm working on a new project (jesus lord, can I be any more distracted about my damn projects?)that might actually work. As in, instead of doing what I normally do with comics, which is fly by the seat of my pants and hope that I don't get bored with it(and we've seen how well THAT works.) I'm actually planning. And by planning, I mean I'm writing a script(sort of) and doing character design BEFORE i start drawing the actual comic, and doing thumbnails and all that jazz. For realz. So we'll see how that works out.

TRAP!

There's not much to say about Mister Hipp's amazing image, other than the obvious: IT'S A TRAP! and I say this with much joy and jubilation. I've been wanting to post some of his Batman images, but since Admiral Ackbar is the patron saint of my household, I had to share this with you all. Joy and Jubilation indeed.

Lady sketches

well, still no comic today. I almost quit, but the boyfriend effectively counteracted my ADD tendencies and challenged me to 100 installments of that comic. I'm incredibly stubborn and I never back down on a challenge, so I'll probably get it done. Above is a sketch of a lady, I'm trying to get up on my character design skillz. click on the image for the full layout. I have to run to work, so more on all this later.

Monday, March 14, 2011

Oh Portland...

What do you get when you add a bagpipe and a unicycle? Portland at its finest:

Sorry I haven't posted in almost a week. That experiment I've been working on in the Print studio is proving to be more difficult than I anticipated. I'm on attempt number five, though I'm getting closer each time. this time I got it to accept ink upon rolling up, but I lost most of the drawing when I went to second etch. And that time I followed the directions in the tamarind book instead of just going from memory. still, I think I know what I need to do. enough bout that, I'll get back to you all when I have photos.

As a result of my experimenting with fickle lithography projects, my comics have been pushed aside for a minute. DO NOT FEAR. I'll try to get the next installment up tomorrow or the next day.

All right, off to more printmaking!

EDIT: I did it! I made the lo-shu wash work! as far as I know, it is stable, we'll see what happens when I get around to trying to print an edition. so far so good though...

Tuesday, March 8, 2011

man man comics comics prints prints

And here we have the second installment of our comic. I'll try to get the next part up on friday, kinda rushed the colors, I might be experimenting with that later, but for now this will do.

Also! one of my favorite bands is coming out with a new album! WAHOO! Man Man is full of crazy and awesome, and they put on one hell of a live show. Anyways, it comes out May 10th, which is a little bit of a wait. But also not, since they haven't had anything new since 2008. Anyways, there's that.

In other news, I went on a bit of a Lithography adventure, trying to get a lo-shu wash to work. A lo-shu wash is when you suspend gum arabic into water, paint it on the stone, then wait for it to dry. Once this is done, you rub it up with greasy ink and if all goes well (and this is a BIG If) they you get this really lovely effect:

This image is a test done by one of my compadres from Tamarind. Anyways, let's just say my tests were not as successful. I had a bit of a mad scientist moment, and tried 3 times to get the damn thing to work. In all fairness, I've never actually done a lo-shu wash myself, and I was going completely from memory of a demo of it I saw maybe three years ago, so I was a little rusty on the specifics. I tried all of my sneaky printmaker tricks to get the damn thing to work, and I got pretty close a couple times, but ultimately ended in failure. Sad face. So I looked it up and realized I had made some key mistakes, and I plan on going back to the studio tonight and giving it another try. Also, I finished my drawing for the Tiniest Print Exchange. It's a fun little thing, and I'll probably proof it tonight. I still need to add two more rund to it at least, but the key is pretty nice, exactly what I had in mind. If Im feeling particularly ambitious, I might also proof the large fungus tree, which is ready to go. I will most likely need to add another run to it to make it look the way I imagine, but the hard part is done. Hopefully I'll start getting some pictures of all my printmaking adventures.

Sunday, March 6, 2011

update! update! I'm doing stuff!(sort of)

I'm working on the next installment of that comic that I have yet to name(seriously, I need to get on that) Inks are done, I'll probably trhow some colors on it and get it posted in the next day or two. Stuff in the Print studio is ready for proofing, working on my tiniest print as well as some fungus trees. I have been staring and drooling over this blog, Royal Boiler. The works and inspiration of Brandon Graham. Probably part of the reason why I'm doing some comics now because I want to be that good.

Anyways, look forward to another few panels of (insert title of comic)! There are explosions and also aliens, but I won't say anything else. I'm off to go eat some food.

Jennie doesn't know it yet....

And there we have it, folks! Looks like I'll be updating regularly on Fridays. here is the first installment of my new weekly comic, which is currently unnamed. I wasn't sure how to get myself started, so I went with the "our protagonist does't know it yet, but their life is about to change..." approach. Click on the image to get the full thing, resizing it for the blog makes it looks silly and illegible. I might update the comic more than once a week if I'm feeling frisky, but let's not get ahead of ourselves.

In other news, I've been going down the rabbit hole lately, I'll be making a post about what I've found. It's partially responsible for why I'm so balls out about making comics right now. More on this later, going to go see a movie with The Boyfriend.

Thursday, March 3, 2011

weekly comic

I've decided to start doing a weekly comic. or something like that. I'm going to keep them pretty short, probably about the size of yesterday's comic, but it will be continuous. I have the pencils down for the first installment, hope to have the rest of it done in the next day or so. Expect aliens, superheros, bad tempers, dancing, polite rivalries and other delights in the installments to come. This is my way of keeping my skills sharp until I can commit to a serious project, wether it is a solo thing or a team effort. Anyways, talk is cheap, so I'll leave it at that and hopefully have some shiny bits to show off tomorrow or the day after.

procrastination

I WILL MAKE COMICS IF IT KILLS ME.

We throw people into space...

It wasn't until I saw this video that I realized just how spectacular it is that we throw people into space. I mean, seeing the pyrotechnics up close, which is the usual view for shuttle launces, is pretty special in itself, but seeing this little light being shot into the atmosphere at incredible speeds really puts it into perspective. I mean, there are people in that little light. Not only that, but they usually come back in one piece. It takes a lot to do that.

Secret of the Incas

What Seven Samurai was to Star Wars, Secret of the Inca is to Indiana Jones. The description on the video says it all:
Harry Steele (Charlton Heston) is the smart, two-fisted relic hunter who has found the secret hiding place of ancient Inca gold, high in the Peruvian Andes at fabled Machu Picchu, and is willing to use anyone or anything to get there; Dr. Stanley Moorehead (Robert Young) is the idealistic archeologist who wants to give the long-lost treasure back to the Peruvian people; Elena Atonescu (Nicole Maury) is the beautiful and seductive refugee they both fall for, and who will stop at nothing to stay out from behind the Iron Curtain; Kori-Tika (Yma Sumac) is the exotic Inca priestess, whose otherworldly singing is the only way to pacify the restless Peruvian natives; Ed Morgan (Thomas Mitchell) is the murderous thief, driven by a lifetime of greed, who is trying to steal the treasure for a last great score. Harry must race them all to find the treasure, using a secret of his own - only Harry knows the ancient ritual which will reveal the hidden gold in the tomb of the last Inca King, in a stunning scene that influenced the Well of Souls from "Raiders Of The Lost Ark".

A lot of attention is given about how this is so influential to Indiana Hones, but the thing that makes me nerd out the most is that this is the only movie Yma Sumac ever made. For those of you unfamiliar, Yma Sumac was a Peruvian Singer with an incredible vocal range of five octaves. That's only the beginning of how awesome she was.

Anyways, enjoy the movie. I've been trying to watch it for ages, and only recently has the whole thing become accessible, as it is now public domain.

Littlest Print Exchange

even though I know I sometimes bite off more than I can chew, I've decided to join The Littlest Print Exchange just for the fun of it. and also to get my printmaker nerd on. For those of you interested, sign ups are still going on and spaces still available, so jump on it! I have no idea what I'm going to do for it, but I never know what I'm doing anyways.

Lady Knuckles Sketch

Sorry for being so scattered lately. I've been wanting to show more drawings and less silly videos, but I've had some serious blockage. Nothing a heavy dosage of Warren Ellis comics straight into the nervous system couldn't fix, I guess. i've been knee deep in The Authority and Planetary(as well as my weekly fix of Freakangels) as well as having plenty of brain time at work to think about comics and other things that I could be doing with my free time. Anyways, I decided to revisit an old idea, a sort of street fighter-esque tournament between super hero teams. I guess there are too many super humans around with nothing to do, so to keep them from fighting eachother and making a mess out of all the architecture, the world governments set up a mandatory tournament thing. Below is Lady Knuckles, who is unfortunately paired with Captain Apathy(who I drew, but is not ready for show and tell just yet) Threw some basic colors on Lady Knuckles. More supers to come, perhaps. If I can stay focused on one comic book project long enough to actually get something done.

Sounds from Space!

I am both fascinated and terrified with outer space. Here is what Saturn sounds like. Or rather, electromagnetic waves converted into an audio file. You can hear more of these by checking out the Coilhouse article on the subject.

Space is creepy, and I love it. I also have this sneaking suspicion I'm bound for an existential moment.

Rhymes with...ELEVEN!

Miscommunication is a funny thing, especially when it is scottish.

Star Trek is also a funny thing, especially when it is scottish.

fungus trees

Here's the first of my fungus tree lithographs. It's a little one, two colors, 4" x 6". I'm feeling a little medium on it, it could probably use another color, but my attention is already focused elsewhere. The next print I'm working on is considerably larger. It's still in progress but photos are coming soon. I'm not sure how many colors I'm wanting it to be, or if I want it to be colorful at all. Also puttering away at batman 1943, which really starts off around 1940, but 1943 is a cooler number. I am a nerd.

iPad Accordion

Half of me thinks this is a fantastic idea while the other half is yelling "WHY WOULD YOU DO SUCH A THING!?!" Mostly it is awesome, but of course can never come close to the real thing. except for the part where the iPad is significantly lighter. The person playing is also quite delightful. Thank you interwebz.

Everything in its Right Place

For anyone with a tendency to enjoy extreme organization(like myself) this blog is not fair. Not fair at all. Things Organized Neatly is just that; photos of things, mostly ordinary, organized in the most sublime of fashions. It keys into that special little OCD part of myself that demands that everything be in its place. Enjoy the neatness.

Vintage Photos from Sydney Police Archives

lordy, are you in for a treat today. The above is a small sample of the incredible photography found in the Sydney Justice & Police Museum Archives and they are indeed something to behold. You can find the rest of these photos through the french blog La boite verte as well as at Coilhouse. These are truly stunning photographs and worth a look.

Oh facebook, why have I forsaken you? oh wait, I remember now...

I hadn't realized that having a website that had "book" at the end of it belonged to Mark Zuckerberg. there have already been two websites (Placebook and Teachbook, a travel website and teacher's resource respectively) that were pressured by facebook to change their names to something not involving "book". Because there can be only one, and facebook is THE ONE. On the bright side, Lamebook is trying to get legal protection claiming first amendment rights for being a parody to avoid being pressured by facebook to change their name or else. Lamebook is holding fundraisers to fund their legal battle. Good luck, kids!

Because remeber...THERE CAN BE ONLY ONE.

Star wars by subway car

This delightful little moment was brought to you by Improv Everywhere. I was looking through the youtubes for some star wars accordion stuff, in preparation for Rebel Scum(a Star Wars Poetry/musical extravaganza that I play accordion for) this delighted me beyond all reason. and you know what else is delightful? Daily Drop Cap

Today I am home sick from work, so instead of sleeping(which is what I should be doing right now and will probably do as soon as I'm done here) I've put my energy to trolling the internet. I found some fun stuff, such as OMG Posters as well as This Isn't happiness. What I really got excited about was The Daily Drop Cap, an ongoing project by Jessica Hische in which she designs a new letter of the alphabet each day(or at least every work day). Some of my favorites are below!

Wisdom teeth

I'm not even going to explain.

Rhymes with...METAL

The internet is a strange and terrible place. but also delightful. Today's "Rhymes with" could probably be filed under silly cute animals. Or metal. I'm sorry. METAL. METAL BIRDS. GRAAAAAAR. Metal penguin is delightful, but the Death Cock is the destroyer of worlds.

This Penguin wishes it was a rooster SO HARD.

This rooster is a bad ass.

The Satorialist

I have a confession, though it's probably not much of a surprise to anyone. I have a secret love of fashion. Not your general runway model floofy this-would-never-be-worn-by-a-real-person-especially-if-they-weigh-more-than-ten-pounds fashion. I love the day to day, all shapes and size, this-is-what-I-happened-to-have-in-my-closet-today fashion. Well, that, and I greatly admire people who make an effort to put themselves together nicely when they go out in public. I try to do it myself, with varying degrees of success. Anyways, here is what I'm getting at. The Satorialist is a wonderful blog that captures people on the streets of new York wearing wonderfully stylish attire, from the duct-taped boots of a construction worker to the lusciously draped layering of a twenty-something woman in china town. A short documentary was recently made about the man behind the camera, and it is lovely. I enjoy watching him get a haircut.

Stalking cat

ok, so I know I've ben bad about posting, but it's not because I don't love the internet. I do love the internet, it's just that I've had work, and haven't been able to do the things I want to do. Also there hasn't been much to report. I am working on a print, and I have photos, but those are trapped on my camera until I can get the correct usb cable thingy to get said photos onto the interwebs. So in the meantime, here is Stalking cat.

Think of this video as a metaphor for things to come. little by little. inch by inch. it only appears as if I'm not moving, only because I choose to be productive when no one is looking. yeah, that's it...

Rhymes with...Stranger than Kindness

Today has been a weird day. Got a parking ticket for being dumb(really, I have no one to blame but myself...) Woke up from a really weird dream about trains. I spent my morning reading the Avian Gospels which I finished. As ifI wasn't already in a gloomy state of mind, that book certainly pushed me over the edge. When I finally managed to drag myself out of bed, feed myself and get dressed, it was somewhere around 2:30. This is unusual for me. So I headed off to the print studio and spent several hours drawing creepy, detailed, fungus trees. I'll be sure to post photos of that particular adventure later. So here I am, killing some time before going to karaoke posting two of the creepiest music videos I could get my hands on.

First off is We Are the World with Fight Song. I found it a while ago, but it still is intriguing and I watch it several times before I have to put it away so I can get something else done.

Next up we have Fever Ray, with a cover of Nick Cave's "Stranger Than Kindess" which in itself is a bad ass cover, but then pair that with a creepy music video(because really, nothing else would do) and you have so much awesome the world might explode. No really, I about peed myself when I saw this.

Goodbye Facebook!

I have pulled the plug and left the world of facebook. in doing so, I found some old things I had forgotten about, such as this lovely bit of printmaker nerdery. It's a collection of photos of graining sinks from around the world. Wa-Hoo!!!!

Also, deleting facebook was not as easy as it should have been, and I write this so others know. the easy link only "deactivates" your facebook account, leaving all of your information, photos, etc available. When you do this, it asks you far reasons why you are deactivating your account, and everything you click pulls up reasons why you should stay. it's like trying to break up with an abusive boyfriend. It only strengthened my resolve to quite my 5 plus year relationship with the facebooks. To permanently delete your account, you have to search it out, follow the link it gives you, and then stay off facebook for 14 days. you cannot have any interaction with the website at all or your account will be re-activated. Facebook is some serious business. I was feeling a little wishy-washy about maybe rejoining in the future after I've had some space, but I was mildly creeped out and I think I'll stay away.

So Thanks, Facebook, it's been grand.
